The American Library Association (ALA) is oldest and largest library association in the world.
Founded in 1876, the mission of ALA is “to provide leadership for the development, promotion and improvement of library and information services and the profession of librarianship in order to enhance learning and ensure access to information for all.”
The Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) supports not-for-profit publishers and those that work with them, such as OpenAthens.
Through our membership we engage with publishers at events and learn about issues impacting scholarly publishing. We also keep up-to-date with the latest industry information via ALPSP’s news, research and advice.
Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) is the library and information association for the UK.
Library members can meet us at the CILIP conference to discover more about how we support access to online resources. Through CILIP’s Information Professional magazine and weekly newsletter we learn about current challenges and solutions for library members.
Council for Learning Resources in Colleges (CoLRiC) is an independent organisation working with library and learning resources centre managers. Its 200 members include further education and sixth form colleges in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.
Our membership helps us stay connected with UK colleges, providing reliable access to quality learning resources.
Founded in 1939, NISO is a non-profit membership organisation, accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). NISO is where publishers, libraries, and software developers turn for information industry standards that allows them to work together. Through NISO, these communities collaborate on mutually accepted standards—solutions that enhance their operations today and form a foundation for the future.
Research and Education FEDerations group (REFEDS) aim to meet the needs of identity federation members worldwide.
We collaborate with other identity federations to develop standards-based single sign-on technology, policies and processes for secure access to online resources.
Seamless Access is an organisational discovery tool that enables library users to search for their institution and login via their institution’s single sign-on service, such as OpenAthens.
Together, we help provide a simple, seamless access experience for library users. We also encourage publishers to implement NISO-approved recommended practices to improve users’ access experience.
The OpenAthens team are represented on the Seamless Access advisory and outreach committees.
The Publishers Association aims to ensure the publishing industry remains one of the UK’s leading creative industries.
We’re an associate member and preferred supplier. Members can meet us at the Frankfurt Book Fair and other events. Publishers can also find us in the associate members directory and publishing yearbook.
UKSG aims to connect the information community through publications and events. The association supports discussion and progression of issues facing its members.
Through UKSG’s insights journal and newsletter, we learn about current issues and developments in the global knowledge community. We also join other members at UKSG’s annual conference and participate in discussions on the e-lis-resources list.
